PC vs MAC – Battle of the century

This battle has been going on for decades.  It used to be a battle reserved for only the nerdiest of humans.  However, over the years with the local availability of MACs (and Apple Products) and the popularity of the iPhone/iPad the feud has moved in to the realm of the average consumer as well.

“What is the best platform?”

My answer: “D for all of the above”

Windows 7 Logo

Microsoft Windows 7

I personally use and promote the use of PCs running Microsoft Windows.  To many of my professional peers, I am the outcast.  The Mac is the widely preferred option for design and the like.  While there are benefits for designers on the Mac. Ultimately I believe preference to be the key.

Apple's Mac

I have used both PCs and Macs in work and educational environments.  The main reason I stick to a PC is due to experience.  I learned at an early age on a PC.  Granted we did have Apple IIe’s when i was in elementary school.  However, at the same time I was playing at home on a DOS machine.  It took the schools around here a while to upgrade to the Mac and by that time I had already been using Windows 3.0 for at least a year.  So the core of my initial computer knowledge came from a PC.

Darn Apple Key

Frustration over key commands

My biggest complaint when using a Mac in college or at a job was the irritation involved in remembering shortcut keys and file handling which hindered my obsession with efficiency. So when it is up to me, I use a PC.

Macs, generally have better hardware and overall machine quality.  This is due to the strict standards which Apple applies to products.  This does limit the amount of available (and inexpensive) hardware and software (although, software is becoming more available).  On the other side, a PC has unlimited hardware options and way more software options than the Mac.  This is due to the more open structure and standards on a PC and Windows.  The downside here is the availability of cheaply made hardware and software.

In the end, pro’s and con’s aside I believe you can get the same great experience from either platform.  I think the battle is silly and I tend to either avoid the discussion publicly, or (for fun) I pretend that I think the PC is superior just to further irritate the Mac lovers who insist on arguing with me.  All in all I don’t care and as long as you aren’t forcing me to use a Mac – I have nothing but good things to say about it ;-)

Your adverage PC user, jus sayin - you be the judge....

I don’t believe I am the authority on the matter any-who…

(but I do admit I wish I had the Android Tablet rather than my iPad but as it was a gift for my 30th birthday; My wife gets two thumbs up for best present ever.)
